Chile is preparing to hold a new tender of 5G-compatible spectrum in the first half of 2023, reports DPL News, citing the country’s Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya San Martin. “We are evaluating the specific conditions according to what is defined with the 150 MHz in 3.5 GHz that are for fixed use… but we want it to be in the first semester,” said Araya.
The confirmation comes after Chile’s antitrust court TDLC decided to vacate its previous ruling on the use of fixed wireless holdings in the 3.4 to 3.6 GHz band for 5G services, paving the way for the forthcoming tender.
Subtel is required to seek the TDLC’s approval to define the scope of an auction after the government raised CLP 249 billion in a series of tenders of 5G frequencies held around two years ago.
