Germany’s 1&1 has launched its first 5G services, offering fixed-wireless access for home internet over the new network. Pricing starts at EUR 19.99 per month for 50GB per month.
Plans are also available with 100 GB for EUR 29.99 per month and 250 GB for EUR 39.99 per month. All the plans come with speeds of up to 500 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload. After using up the included data, access is still possible at a reduced speed of 384 Kbps until the end of the month.
The router is linked to the customer’s home address and cannot be used for mobile services. Customers can choose between the 1&1 HomeServer 5G with integrated 5G antenna and 100 GB of cloud storage for EUR 6.99 per month, or the 1&1 HomeServer+ with 5G external antenna including 150 GB of cloud storage for EUR 9.99 per month. The compact external antenna is attached to the outside of a window and connected to the router with a thin cable. All new connections also carry a one-time provision fee of EUR 39.95.
The new service is in line with 1&1’s previous statement that it would launch the 5G network by year-end. The first antennas were put into operation in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe, and the network will be gradually expanded in the coming weeks to make the services available in more regions.
